Quick & cheap muck heap solution for your yard!

If like me, you look after your own horse and rent or own a small yard, then you too may find it difficult to be able to afford to install all the best facilities. It's not only that a muck heap is essential, but you have to consider where to put it, who's going to empty it, how big it needs to be and how often you will need it to be emptied. yard muck heap

I decided that with two horses and a pony, I needed a fairly large muck heap because I have to pay the farmer to remove it and I didn't want to have the expense and mess of that more than once a year! I have positioned the muck heap away from the stables, but within easy reach and with good access for the farmer.

I used to have a muck trailer, but personally I find them a pain, especially if it's icy (I fell off the ramp at least twice!). Although, brick built walls were not an option, I wanted a solid structure. Hence, my muck heap is made of square timber posts knocked into the ground with corrugated steel sheets nailed on. Quick, easy, solid and allows me to keep the area tidy and pack the muck down so that it rots better and takes up less space!
